A walk to prevent suicide takes place at 10 am on Sunday, Nov. 9 on Piers 16 and 17 in the South Street Seaport. The New York City Out of Darkness Walk supports the research, education and advocacy of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for people ages 15 to 34. Go here to register or to donate.

 

It’s My Park Day in City Hall Park, on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 am to 1 pm, offers volunteers a chance to help beautify the park. Plant bulbs, rake leaves, care for trees, clean paths or create chalk art, the choice is yours. If you don’t have gardening gloves, they will be provided. “The Breaking Point” screens on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 6 River Terrace as part of the free Battery Park City Authority’s Noirvember Film Series. (Free popcorn included). A discussion follows. The 1950 film, an adaptation of Hemingway’s “To Have and Have Not,” stars  John Garfield as Harry Morgan, a charter boat captain who takes on dangerous cargo, then faces criminal propositions and playful come-ons, stretching both his morality and his marriage.

Stephen Grillo early works Paintings and drawings by pioneering Tribeca artist Stephen Grillo, who died last year at age 85, will be on display at Duane Park Patisserie, 179 Duane St., from Nov. 13 through Dec. 5. The show includes early work by Grillo, who moved to Duane Street with his wife Jean in 1972.

 

Follow the Revolutionary Trail Next summer is the 250th anniversary of American Independence and the Downtown Alliance is getting a head start with NYC Revolutionary Trail, a three-mile self-guided tour in partnership with the Gotham Center that traces 16 sites of the Revolution in Lower Manhattan. It highlights the events, people and places that played key roles in the Revolution from 1763 to 1789. Go here to view the guide.

 

The Battery Park City Greenmarket is open on Sundays until Nov. 23, from 9 am to 2 pm, outside the Irish Hunger Memorial, North End Avenue and Vesey Street. The market is run by Down to Earth Markets and hosted by the Battery Park City Authority.
