Police say a 26-year-old man was shot with a BB gun during a robbery attempt in the Financial District last Tuesday, May 7.

The victim, who police are not identifying publicly, was on his lunch break, walking beneath a scaffolding near Pearl and Platt streets when he was accosted by stranger who had what appeared to be a handgun tucked in a pocket of his sweatshirt.

According to police, the assailant, described as a bearded 38-year-old white male, 5-foot 10-inches tall and 230 pounds, stepped on the victim’s foot and said, “Give me your wallet and phone.” The man did as he was told, then yelled for someone to call the police. The would-be robber backed away as the victim began to follow him. After a few steps, police say, the perpetrator shot his victim in the right leg with what turned out to be a BB gun. He then threw the wallet back at the man and fled. Police later found a BB gun and a knife at a loading dock at 111 John Street.

There was no report of injury to the victim.
