Play Mahjong at Museum of Jewish Heritage

Mahjong at the Museum of Jewish Heritage takes place every Tuesday through June. 

Mahjong, the popular game of skill, luck and cooperation between players, was created in China and has been popular with Americans since the 1920s.

Mahjong's popularity was fueled by "advertisers who promised that it would provide players an experience of ancient Eastern mystery, modern cosmopolitanism, and Jazz Age glamor," according to Annelise Heinz, an assistant professor of history at the University of Texas at Dallas, who has extensively studied and written about the game [1].

Anyone who would like to learn the game or brush up on their skills is welcome to the free weekly Mahjong games on Tuesdays, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Pl. The games continue through June.
