  LMDC: Drinking, Smoking at Deutsche Site 'Disgraceful'
Posted September 10, 2008: Following the discovery of evidence that workers have been drinking beer and smoking cigarettes inside the Deutsche Bank tower in Lower Manhattan, the agency responsible for the deconstruction of the building, where two firefighters died in a blaze a year ago, told Community Board 1 members Sept. 8 that it did no know how such activities could have gone on in the supposedly secure site.

Posted September 8, 2008: Fire officials said a faulty electrical conduit was the cause of a late-morning scare at 44-story office tower on lower Broadway Monday, Sept. 8.
     
  Milstein Promises Safety Plan for BPC Condo Towers
Posted September 5, 2008: As crews continue to drive piles for a 471-unit apartment complex adjacent to the Battery Park City ball fields, developers of the project promised a Community Board 1 committee on Sept. 2 they would keep residents safe while the high-rise buildings are under construction. The Milstein project is on the block just north of the as-yet-unfinished Goldman Sachs tower, where falling debris paralyzed an architect in December and narrowly missed a Little League outfielder in May.
     
  Residents Suing NYPD Over Counter-Terrorism Bunker
POSTED SEPTEMBER 3, 2008: A group of Chinatown residents say they’re willing to take the city’s Police Department to court if it doesn’t reconsider plans for a counter-intelligence bunker near its Lower Manhattan headquarters.

  Local Markets Hit Hard by Whole Foods
POSTED AUGUST 29, 2008: Whole Foods has landed in Tribeca, and neighborhood markets are already cooling in its shadow. Morgan’s Market on Hudson Street and Bazzini at Greenwich and Jay, as well as the Food Emporium, have been missing many of their regular customers in recent months.
     
  Trump Sued Over Leaks at Fancy 40 Wall St.
UPDATED SEPTEMBER 4, 2008: Donald Trump, whose name is emblazoned above the main entrance to the landmark office tower at 40 Wall St., is being sued by one of the building’s tenants, John P. Bostany, over chronic flooding on the 61st floor.
After 3 Years, Residents want trees back Bobbies’ 9/11 Trips On Display
POSTED AUGUST 29, 2008: It has been three and a half years since the city cut down a number of trees in order to drill a shaft to a new water main at the corner of Hudson and Laight Streets. Since then, not one has been returned to the site. POSTED AUGUST 29, 2008: This month, the New York City Police Museum will exhibit a collection of Neil Kitson’s photographs of more than 100 British police officers who visit New York every year to commemorate Sept. 11.
Knitting Factory Moving to Brooklyn Muggers Caught with PEP’s Help

Another club could be taking its place.   MTA to Install Raised Subway Vents, Bike Racks in Tribeca
UPDATED AUGUST 29, 2008: Hoping to avoid a redux of the catastrophic flooding that shut down several of the city’s subway lines last summer, the NYC Transit recently revealed controversial plans to install raised ventilation grates along four blocks of West Broadway and one block of Varick Street.
     
  City Will Narrow Greenwich St. to Make Crossing Safer
UPDATED AUGUST 29, 2008: This summer, the city’s Department of Transportation announced it was planning to implement traffic calming measures at the intersection of Greenwich and Duane Streets, just not the kind the residents have been asking for.
     
  City Has Designs on Local Parks
UPDATED AUGUST 29, 2008: With parks and green space in short supply on the east side of Lower Manhattan, the city's Parks and Recreation Department is moving ahead on plans for two new parks and a much expanded playground in the district.

  Family, FDNY Mark Anniversary of Deutsche Bank Fire
POSTED AUGUST 19, 2008: City and Fire Department officials gathered at the former station house of two firefighters killed in the Deutsche Bank blaze a year ago. Family of the two men recieved plaques and medals marking their sacrifice.
