  MTA to Install Raised Subway Vents, Bike Racks in Tribeca
POSTED AUGUST 21, 2008: Hoping to avoid a redux of the catastrophic flooding that shut down several of the city’s subway lines last summer, the NYC Transit recently revealed plans to install raised ventilation grates along four blocks of West Broadway and one block of Varick Street.
     
  Family, FDNY Mark Anniversary of Deutsche Bank Fire
POSTED AUGUST 19, 2008: City and Fire Department officials gathered at the former station house of two firefighters killed in the Deutsche Bank blaze a year ago. Family of the two men recieved plaques and medals marking their sacrifice.

OSHA: Dip in Pavement Caused Window Washers' Deaths
UPDATED AUGUST 19, 2008:
The federal Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration (OSHA) says uneven pavement caused the fatal accident that killed two window washers at the World Financial Center earlier this month.

POSTED AUGUST 8, 2008: As part of its massive, multi-billion dollar East River Waterfront Project, the city’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) plans to reconstruct Pier 15, near the intersection of South and Pine Streets.
     
  For Tribeca Warehouse, History May Repeat Itself
POSTED AUGUST 6, 2008: Developers are planning to build a replica of the 1905 warehouse at 71 Laight Street, renovate the warehouse, then turn both buildings into loft apartments.
     
  Timberlake's Partner Drops Bid for Murray Street Sports Bar

Restaurateur Eytan Sugarman, who co-owns the Upper East Side BBQ eatery Southern Hospitality with pop icon Justin Timberlake, recently withdrew his application for an as-yet-unnamed sports bar and restaurant at 6 Murray Street.

FiDi Is Leader by Far in Residential Growth
By 2013, the population of Lower Manhattan will be nearly double what it was in 2000. Almost half of those people will live in the Financial District. A study projects that between 2000 and 2013, the population will grow from 34,420 to more than 63,000. The Financial District alone will increase by at least 240 percent, with more than 19,000 new residents expected by 2013.
