Pants Taken With Wallet in Downtown Mugging
After a night out drinking, an Arizona man fell victim to a mugger’s unusual demands in the Financial District.
Visiting the city from his home in Surprise, Ariz., the 40-year-old man, whose name is being withheld, told police he was exiting the 4/5 train at Broadway and Fulton Street around 6 a.m., May 8, when an unidentified man approached him and demanded, “Give me your pants and shoes.” The victim told police that he complied and handed the items to the robber, who then ran off with them. The pants contained the victim’s wallet and iPhone.
The victim said the mugger did not show a weapon or threaten him. Rather than look for a nearby officer, the man later told police he went straight to his hotel at 15 Gold St. to “avoid embarrassment.” He also told police he decided to sleep for several hours before reporting the robbery.
The victim described the suspect to police as a white male with a crew cut, approximately 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds.
