Your 2017 Guide to Halloween Happenings in Lower Manhattan

From Kooky Karaoke to pumpkin painting to a reading of spooky poems, there's a way for every Downtown family to celebrate the holiday. Here's a rundown of Halloween happenings in Lower Manhattan. All events are free, except where noted.
LEMAN MANHATTAN PREP PARTY
When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 10 am-12 pm
Where: 41 Broad St.
This is the third annual Halloween party at Léman Prep and it features pumpkin decorating, story time, spooky treats, face painting, costume parade and more. For infants through 3rd grade. Tickets: $15 per child. Free for Léman students. Tickets here.
CHURCH STREET SCHOOL FOR MUSIC & ART: ALL THINGS SPOOKY
When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 am-3 pm
Where: 74 Warren St.
On tap at Church Street this year are Princesses, Ninjas and Zombies, a Halloween costume parade, a spooky scavenger hunt, face painting, art projects, Kooky Karaoke, a spooky maze and a haunted hallway for big kids. HALLOWEEN STORYTELLING
When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 11 am
Where: Barnes & Noble, 97 Warren St.
In "Mary McScary," bestselling authors R.L. Stine and Marc Brown join forces in a funny story featuring a fearless anti-heroine that will have kids—and parents—cheering. "Creepy Pair of Underwear!" by Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown is a hilarious and creepy story of a brave rabbit and a very weird pair of underwear.
ALL HALLOW'S EVE AT POETS HOUSE
When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 12-3 pm
Where: Poets House, 10 River Terrace
A once-a-year afternoon of crafts, snacks, and activities celebrating all things spooky and spirited! Wear your costumes! $5 donation
BASH AT BROOKFIELD PLACE
When: Saturday, Oct. 28, 12-3 pm
Where: Winter Garden, 230 Vesey St.
This annual free bash at the Winter Garden in Brookfield Place has something for all ages. There's a visual and sound installation of large ice blocks that plays music when touched, a Costume Catwalk with emcees, a LEGO Photo Op, trick-or-treating, storytelling, temporary tattoos, and "Quiet Clubbing" on the plaza where everyone listens to their choice of music through headphones.
SPOOKY STORIES FOR ALL AGES
When: Sunday, Oct. 29, 11 am
Where: Rockefeller Park, Battery Park City
Celebrate Halloween by listening to some “not-too-scary” tales, told by the storyteller Luann Adams. Children are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes!
CARNIVAL ON PIER 26
When: Sunday, Oct. 29, 12-5 pm
Where: West and N. Moore Sts.
Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 is transformed with interactive storytelling (Story Pirates), magic with Kid Ace, pumpkin painting, rides, face painting, treats and more. Most attractions will appeal to kids aged 2–8 years. Some activities are free, and select activities are $2. Information here.
WASHINGTON MARKET PARK HALLOWEEN PARADE & PARTY
When: Sunday, Oct. 29, 1-3 pm
Where: Washington Market Park, Greenwich & Duane Sts.
This free annual Halloween party and costume parade is the park’s longest running event, and it is one of the highlights of the year for local children! Volunteers run a dozen free events, from penny-in-a-haystack to a bone dig in the sandbox, and a hay circle on the lawn. The parade line-up begins at 12:50 p.m. at Beach Street at North Moore Street and travels south along Greenwich Street to the park
