A 25-year-old repair worker is in critical condition after suffering multiple injuries from a 25-foot fall down an elevator shaft in an office building at 61 Broadway around 11:30 this morning.

Rescue workers hoisted the man out of the building’s basement through the shaft using ropes and a rigid backboard stretcher and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital’s Emergency Service and Trauma Center, according to John Wieland, deputy chief of the city Fire Department Emergency Medical Service’s Manhattan Division 1.

“We have a doctor on the scene,” he said. “He helped to treat, along with our rescue medic.”
