The Tribeca Trib garnered eight Better Newspaper Contest awards this month—including first place for Best Web Site—at the New York Press Association's annual convention.

Other first place awards to the Trib included Best Feature Photo for coverage of the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Academy and Best Sports Action Photo for pictures of Downtown Giants playing flag football, both to Trib editor Carl Glassman. The second place honor for Photographer of the Year also went to Glassman.  “Carl’s prodigious storytelling abilities reach far beyond the expectations of ordinary photographers. His photos show a wide range of emotions and strong composition,” the judge's said.

The Trib also took third place for both Photographic Excellence and, for Glassman's coverage of the WTC Tower 1 antenna installation, a third place for Picture Story.

April Koral's story on Ellis Island's recovery from Hurricane Sandy won third place in the feature writing category. "An awesome story of dedication by a writer clearly dedicated to her craft," the judges wrote. "This tale was very moving because of the caliber of writing."

Finally, Thea Glassman's video on Tribeca residents demonstrating against horn honking on Hudson Street won a second place award for Best Use of Video.
