At St. Paul's: A Freedom Oratorio: From Prison to Release

Framed by Dante’s journey from Inferno through Purgatory to Paradise, formerly incarcerated men and family members recount their journeys from prison to release. Their stories will be accompanied by fragments of Dante’s Divine Comedy, set to music and performed by Frances Pollock.                                               

The evening is inspired by Larry White’s prison survival manual, Hope Lives for Lifers. White will be attending the performance.

Following the performance, Ron Jenkins, Visiting Professor of Religion and the Arts, Institute of Sacred Music, Yale Divinity School will facilitate a discussion based on the themes explored in the performance related to mass incarceration including post-prison trauma, prison education, and the racial injustices of our criminal justice system.

The event is presented by American Friends Service Committee’s Healing Justice Program with Yale Divinity School’s Institute of Sacred Music, and support from Trinity Church Wall Street.
