POLICE BEAT: Jewelry Shoplifting, Motorcycle Theft

April 16, 1:30 p.m.

A man stole a ring valued at $38,900 from Kristin Hanson jewelry shop. The thief, who pretended to be a customer, opened the glass showcase where the ring was on display, grabbed it and fled.

State and Battery Place
April 16, 2:50 p.m.

A 43-year-old man left his jacket on a bench in the subway station as he boarded the train. When the man went to retrieve it minutes later, the jacket—which contained his wallet, credit cards, bank cards, driver’s license, car keys and a $300 business check—was gone. The man later discovered $31 in unauthorized charges on one of the credit cards.

April 16, 6:45 p.m.

A 2011 Ducati motorcycle that had been parked on the street was stolen.

6th Avenue and West Broadway
April 17, 4:55 p.m.

A thief lifted the wallet of a 24-year-old woman while she was standing on the subway platform. The woman, who felt a man bump into her several times, noticed her wallet was missing when she reached into her purse to put away her Metrocard after boarding a train. Inside the wallet was a bank card, a driver’s license, a student ID, and $120.

Whitehall and South
April 19, 4:55 a.m.

Two men are under arrest for swiping the $500 iPhone of a 22-year-old man while he was sleeping in a #1 subway car. A female witness said one of the thieves offered to sell the phone to her, to which she replied, “No, thank you.” The woman reported the theft to a cop who was walking through the train at the South Ferry station. The cop later recovered the stolen iPhone in the subway car.

April 19 7 a.m.

An employee of Diane Shoe Repair left his jacket on the counter while working. When he returned to the counter to fetch the jacket, he realized that his wallet—which contained several credit cards, a bank card, a social security card and a driver’s license—was missing.

April 21, 2:30 a.m.

A thief broke into a 28-year-old woman’s locked car and stole approximately $2,700 worth of electronics, including an iPod, a camera and a camera lens.
