Operation Backpack: Donations Needed

This summer, Trinity Wall Street is partnering with Volunteers of America to collect backpacks and school supplies for students in 5th to 8th grades who sleep in the city’s shelters. Many homeless eighth graders drop out of school, often because they don’t have the supplies they need.

In 2018, Volunteers of America supplied backpacks to 20,000 children sleeping in shelters. This year, that number has grown to more than 21,000.

Supplies can be brought to the drop-off site at St. Paul's Chapel, Broadway and Vesey Street, through Aug. 5. (A shopping guide can be found here.) Volunteers can also join a packing party at the church on Aug. 2, at 6 p.m. In addition to organizing supplies, volunteers will make cards and write personal notes to students—and enjoy pizza.
