New York Academy of Art showcases the work of Martha Erlebacher, a retrospective that spans her illustrious 45-year career. The exhibit, which ends Nov. 24, includes both her figurative and still-life paintings.

Erlebacher's realism is described by the academy as examining "the deep metaphorical and social themes of contemporary culture through her painterly and aesthetic images." Originally trained as an Abstract Expressionist in the 1960s, Erlbacher made an unusual break from the movement to become a leading figure in representational art.

Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 2-8 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The academy is at 111 Franklin St. For more information call 212.842.5966. nyaa.edu.
