'Maritime Studies': Show Aboard Pier 25's Lilac
Photographer Jean Miele finds beauty in the industrial technology of bygone eras, especially those of the country's maritime past, the gauges and wheels, switches and wires that he brings to life in elegant sepia tones. "If you listen carefully," Miele writes, "these images will whisper to you. Their stories will transport you to another world as surely as a time machine."
Miele's exhibit, "Maritime Studies," is now on display aboard the retired Coast Guard cutter Lilac on Pier 25 and features images of the pre-computer age machines and technology of New York’s vanishing seafaring heritage: USCGC Lilac, Fireboat J.J. Harvey, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Lightship Frying Pan, Todd Shipyard, and Tugboat Pegasus.
The exhibition is on view on weekends from 2 to 6 pm until September 21.
Entrance is free.
