City to Add New Alternate-Side Parking in Northwest Tribeca
More alternate-side parking is on its way to northwest Tribeca this spring.
The parking spots, which will be added mostly to east-west streets, got the thumbs-up from Community Board 1’s Tribeca Committee this week. Jennifer Leung, from the Department of Transportation’s Lower Manhattan Borough Commissioner’s office, told the committee that the department had been eyeing North Tribeca for additional alternate side of the street parking because of the many new residents in the area.
All current alternate side parking spaces will remain after the new ones are added, Leung said.
While the regulations will only be added as far east as West Broadway, Leung said in the future she would consider proposing alternate-side parking for blocks between West Broadway and Church Street, and Church Street and Broadway.
With the committee’s blessing, Leung said, she can now present the proposed regulations to the DOT’s operational units, who she expects to implement them by April.
