| Business Group Plans Eventful ‘Tribeca
Week’ to Boost Shops Help Tribeca: drink a beer, look at some art, get a massage. In its continuing effort to bring people Downtown and promote local shops, galleries, restaurants and bars, Tribeca Organization, a coalition of small businesses created after 9/11, is organizing “Tribeca Week,” a series of activities from Saturday, Nov. 9 through Wednesday, Nov. 13. The organizers hope to bring customers from outside Tribeca as well as encourage local residents to patronize neighborhood stores. “Our goal is to show everyone a fun time and reintroduce them to businesses they might not know or aren’t shopping in,” said Sharon Decker, Tribeca Organization’s executive director. The fun kicks off with pet activities on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the dog run on Warren Street, between West and Greenwich streets. There will be a pet-owner look-alike contest and a Reiki master will perform the Tibetan relaxation and healing technique on selected pets. Things pick up on Saturday night with “Drinks Downtown,” a “pub hop.” from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. eight local bars will offer drink specials, hold raffles and have other activities. On Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center, there will be a free children’s fashion show, with local kids modeling outfits from Tribeca clothing and accessory stores. Children’s Tumbling will perform. Also on Sunday afternoon (times to be determined) four Tribeca florists—Ann Bruno, Country Gardens, Downtown Florists and Elan—will offer demonstrations on such skills as arranging a vase, creating holiday decorations and caring for potted plants. There will also be a workshop to show children fun things they can do with flowers. Tuesday is “TADA”—Tribeca Art, Design and Antiques—night, when 61 galleries, home furnishing stores and antiques shops will stay open until 9 p.m. and serve refreshments. TOAST (Tribeca Open Artists Studio Tour) will sponsor an exhibit of local artists at 67 Hudson St. Finally, for those worn out from all the activities, Wednesday through Friday are spa days, with local spas offering 20 percent off all services. For more information, including a full list of participating businesses and a map for the TADA evening, go to www.tribeca.org or call Sharon Decker at 966-0063. |
