Around Downtown Dine Around Downtown, which features menu samplings from Lower Manhattan restaurants, will be held May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chase Manhattan Plaza, located between Nassau and William streets and Liberty and Pine streets. Wall Street Walk A free walking tour of the Financial District led by an urban preservationist and the authors of “The Financial District’s Lost Neighborhood 1900-1970,” will explore the neighborhood’s history as a once thriving residential community. Park Parties Friends of Duane Park will hold their annual spring celebration at the park, Duane and Hudson Streets, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities include planting herbs and flowers. There will also be refreshments and live music. From 1 to 4 p.m. meet for planting and seed races and more refreshments at Tribeca Park, West Broadway and Beach Streets. Yard Sale A Southbridge Towers community yard sale will be held May, 19, 20 and 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the courtyard of the residential complex near Fulton and Pearl Streets. Whole Foods Market Signs Tribeca Lease Whole Foods Market has signed a lease with developer Edward J. Minskoff that will bring a 55,000 square-foot grocery store to 270 Greenwich Street. The store is expected to open in spring 2007 in the ground floor of Minskoff’s residential tower planned on the lot bordered by Warren, West, Murray and Greenwich Streets known as Site 5B. Downtown residents have longed call for more retail and grocery stores in the neighborhood. Whole Foods is the world’s largest chain of natural and organic foods stores. |
