Family Festival: Jugglers, Scavenger Hunts and More

The Tribeca Film Festival features a host of family activities, including scavenger hunts, presentations by the creator of Clifford The Big Red Dog, and a massive daylong street fair.

In the scavenger hunts, from 3–5 p.m. on May 3 and 4, families will wander through Tribeca in teams, searching for answers to clues. The events will be hosted by Walter Wick, the photographer behind Scholastic’s “I Spy” book series. Tickets are $10.

At 10 a.m. on May 3 and 4, Norman Bridwell will tell the story behind his creation of Clifford. An episode of the the TV series will be shown and Clifford himself will pay a visit. Tickets ($12) can be purchased at the festival box office, 387 Greenwich St., or at www.tribeca filmfestival.org.

The street festival, on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., is free, and Greenwich Street between Beach and Duane street will be jam-packed with activities and entertainment.

The main stage will feature bands, an a cappella group, local dance troupes and performances by children from Downtown schools. Jugglers, stilt-walkers, break-dancers, and clowns will entertain on other stages.

In “Puppetville,” a group of large, castle-style tents, there will be puppet shows, puppeteer workshops, and make-your-own puppet stations. And in “storyland” tents, kids can hear book readings in Spanish and English or join storytelling sessions with Clifford and with Ms. Frizzle from “The Magic School Bus.”

Face painters will wander through the fair, double-dutch jump-roping teams will perform and there will be places for kids to play chess, tennis and basketball.
