Turnover at CB1 as Eight More Downtowners Are
Appointed
Eight people were appointed to Community Board 1 last month, bringing
to 12 the number of new members.
The 50-member board had unusually high turnover this year. Some members
didnt reapply; others had their renewal applications denied because
of poor attendance, and four members had to step down after they joined
the staff of Councilman Alan Gerson. Borough President C. Virginia Fields
appointed three members:
Vishaan Chakrabarti,
a midtown resident, is an architect at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill
on Wall Street, and worked on the design for the proposed new New York
Stock Exchange building. He is interested in working with the board on
Downtown development.
Jonathan Ligh, an eye surgeon and director of
ophthalmology at NYU Downtown Hospital, is a lifelong Downtown resident
and has two young children. He is interested in public health and senior
citizens issues and in making security at government buildings less
intrusive.
Kelly McGowan, who works in finance, is a 12-year
Battery Park City resident with two children in P.S. 89. He is interested
in development and education issues.
Gerson named five new members:
Joseph Marrone, president of the board of directors
at Southbridge Towers and a lifelong Downtown resident, is a stock trader.
He wants to be involved in rebuilding Downtown and is interested in youth
issues.
Julie Menin
lives in the Financial District. She owns Vine restaurant at 25 Broad
St., a residential building developed by her husband, Bruce. After Sept.
11 she founded Wall Street Rising, a business group, to help revitalize
Downtown. She spent seven years working as a lawyer.
Ross Moore,
lives and works in the Financial District.
Barry Skolnick,
a 16-year BPC resident, was a public member of CB1 for six years. He is
a human resources coordinator for the city and is interested in Battery
Park City, youth and public safety issues. His daughter will enter P.S.
89 in September.
Frank Addeo
formerly worked at the citys Department of Transportation and now
handles transportation planning at the Downtown Alliance.
Fields appointed Jeff Galloway,
Paul Glass,
Rick Landman
and Rebecca Skinner
in March.
