Family Music and Dance Fest in BPC on June 23

Celebrate the start of summer at Harmony on the Hudson, a free family music festival on June 23 in Battery Park City’s Wagner Park. The event includes seven hours of musical performances and community dancing, as well as children’s activities such as double-Dutch jump rope, relay and potato sack races and tug-of-war.

The festivities begin with Tour de Parc, a bicycle event for 3–9-year-olds from 10:30 a.m. to noon. It begins at Esplanade Plaza and ends in Wagner Park, with one route for bicycles and another for tricycles, scooters or bikes with training wheels. Stops along the way will offer other kids’ activities.

From noon to 5:30 p.m., Grammy Award winner Tom Chapin performs folk songs with his frequent collaborators, Jon Cobert and Michael Mark.

Storyteller, composer and musician David Pleasant performs music that synthesizes African, Caribbean, and African-American traditions.

David González combines storytelling with the salsa, mambo and flamenco sounds of the Latin Legends Band in "Sofrito!," a celebration of Latino culture.

Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer perform their high-energy music on guitar, banjo and hammer dulcimer.

Finally, from 5:30 to 7, the Klezmatics lead a community dance with their soul-stirring klezmer. No partner or experience is necessary and all ages are welcome. A dance teacher will call the steps.
