Tribeca Artists Open Studios for 7th Annual Tour

Tribeca artists are once again opening their studio doors to show, and schmooze about, their work.

It’s the seventh annual TOAST, or Tribeca Open Artists’ Studios Tour, with more than 100 neighborhood artists welcoming visitors to their work spaces on April 26, 27 and 28.

“On the tour, you get to see what artists go through to make their art,” said Regina Silvers, an artist and a founder of T.O.A.S.T. “You don’t usually see that in a gallery. In the studios you’re liable to see studies, sketches and unfinished work. And you can talk with the artists and ask questions.”

Pamela Casper, a painter whose studio is at 100 Hudson St., said she enjoys the contact with people who come to buy or just look at her art. “It’s a concentrated way of getting broad public reaction. In three days, I can have close to 1,000 people coming through the studio. And they can meet the person who created the works.”

In addition to the more than 100 artists, who include painters, sculptors, photographers and mixed media artists, 20 galleries and art spaces are participating in the tour. The works on display will cover a gamut of styles, media, shapes and sizes.

Prints of work by all the artists will be on view all month in the windows of New York Law School at 47 Worth St. A slide show of works will run continuously every night at Franklin Station Café, 222 West Broadway.

TOAST maps showing the studio locations will be available at participating galleries, restaurants and art spaces, at the law school and at Douglas Elliman Real Estate, 90 Hudson St. Studios will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1 to 6 p.m. Visitors can tour whichever studios they want, at their own pace. Admission is free.

The map can be downloaded at www.toastartwalk.com, which also features samples of artists’ works. For information, call 212-479-7322.
