Movie Theater to Reopen with All 16 Screens

Battery Park City’s movie theater, closed since Sept. 11, is set to reopen on May 1, with all 16 screens returning to life, say its owners, Regal Entertainment Group.

The theater will resume operating all 16 screens despite the sparse crowds they often drew since the movie house first opened nearly two years ago.

The theater, formerly under the Regal Cinemas name, will reopen as the United Artists Battery Park City 16. (Regal, which early last year was on the brink of bankruptcy, and UA are now part of the same corporation.)

A week after opening to the public, the theater, at 102 North End Ave., inside the Embassy Suites hotel complex, will also be one of the venues for the Tribeca Film Festival, taking place May 8-12. The theater’s owners and festival organizers are still working out how many screens will be used, according to Dick Westerling, a spokesman for Regal Entertainment Group.

The Embassy Suites will reopen on May 1, with a new restaurant, called Unity, on the ground floor to replace the Manhattan Prime Steakhouse. The restaurant will offer $40 dinner-and-movie packages, as well as half-price drinks for Battery Park City residents, according to a spokeswoman for the hotel.
